Nigerian Man Jailed For Drink Driving In The U.K
A drunk driver was caught on CCTV smashing into a taxi after jumping a red light in horrifying CCTV footage. Samuel Olaitan, 32, was found to be nearly double the legal drink driving limit following the crash on May 20, 2017.
Olaitan tried to run away from the scene, but a member of the public managed to detain him and handed him over to police. He was speeding down Trinity Street, in Bolton town center, the Manchester Evening News reports.
In a CCTV clip released by police, Olaitan can be seen driving along Trinity Street in a white Citroen C4 Cactus at around 2 am. He is seen approaching the junction of Bradford Street, but instead of paying attention to the red light, Olatan whizzes through.
The vehicle then hits the back of a taxi driving through a green light. Both cars can then be seen spinning out of control in the middle of the road, caused by the impact of the collision.
He was breath tested and was found to have 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath – nearly double the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fortunately, the taxi driver and passengers did not suffer any serious injuries.
Olaitan was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, drink driving, having no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a license. He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for two years and has been disqualified from driving for two years.
He must also pay £515 in fines, adhere to a curfew and wear an electronic tag as well as take an extended driving test.
