Then came a comeback Sir Alex Ferguson in the crowd would be proud of.

Paul Pogba scored a brace on 53 and 55.

Then came the winner from Chris Smalling, who headed home an Alexis Sanchez free-kick for 3-2.

Manchester United held on, and were rather lucky to not concede a penalty and red card for a poor Ashley Young tackle on Sergio Aguero.

Chris Smalling reveals the Jose Mourinho motivation

After the 3-2 Manchester United win, Chris Smalling revealed what was said in the Manchester United dressing room at half-time.

Smalling: “He didn’t have to say too much because deep down we knew as players that that wasn’t good enough, & he sort of emphasised that we don’t want to be the clowns who are standing there watching them get their trophy.”

The Manchester United defender added: “At half time we were feeling sorry for ourselves, we wanted to go out there and play with prided and thought we full deserved it in the end. The first half was terrible, we dropped off didn’t play our game, and could have been out of sight.”

Fair play to Jose Mourinho! It certainly worked!
