Arsenal To Battle Man City To Sign This West Brom Star Defender
Arsenal have launched a cash bid for West Brom defender, Jonny Evans.
The Gunners have a long-term interest in the Northern Ireland international.
The Emirates club had failed with an offer for Evans worth £10m plus right-back, Mathieu Debuchy during January transfer window.
Evans is available for just £3million due to a relegation release clause in his contract.
TransferMarketWeb reports that, “Arsnal’s chiefs are trying their luck again, this time tabling a cash bid for Evan’s signature.”
The report added that an exact fee was not mentioned but it would likely meet the 31-year-old bargain buyout clause.
Arsenal will now face competition from Premier League rivals, Manchester City, who also want to sign the defender.
City had an £18m bid for Evans knocked back by West Brom chiefs last summer.
Evans joined the Baggies from United for £6m in 2015 and has one year left on his contract with West Ham.
Meanwhile, West Brom caretaker manager, Darren Moore had previously refused to address Evans’ situation.
Speaking last month about Evans’ future at West Brom, Moore told reporters: “I’m delighted that he’s here at the football club, really pleased to have the opportunity to work with him and may that continue.
“What happens with Jonny in the future, we can’t comment on that now. That isn’t decided yet. He’s still under contract at the football club. Everybody will speculate, I can’t control that.”
